Zach broke his pointer finger on his right hand. He was throwing the football during practice and as his arm was coming down he hit it on another players helmet. It broke right about the first knuckle.
It swelled up pretty fast and turned black and blue up and down his finger and onto his palm.
We went to his doctor and then later to the Orthopedic doctor. Who splinted his finger and wanted to see him in 2 weeks. Well, you can’t play football with a hard splint on. With the encouragement of his coaches, his dad, he took the splint off 24 hours later and played football. With Motrin in his system and his finger wrapped over his football glove he was off to play a very hard team.
He wrapped it up every day and most nights. It has been two weeks since he broke it and he has had 6 football practices, where he tries very hard to take it easy, two football games ,where he scored 4 touchdowns but plays the minimum amount. Which is killing him and basketball tryouts for 6 days. A little broken finger didn’t hold him back, except for picking his nose, Zach said.
The doctor said that his finger looks good and discharged him. Little did the doctor know that Zach discharged himself the day after it happened. It was the “Don’t Ask don’t tell” policy.
