Science Projects

This year we had to help two kids do their science projects.  Not quit sure why they have the kids do this when they know that the parents do most of the work.  Thank heavens Kenny decided to jump in and help this year.  Zach choose  a sports theme and Tayah choose a food theme.  Go Figure!!

Zach’s science project was  “Which bat hits the ball farther, wood or metal?”  Kenny decided last year when we took forever on the science project that he would start then for this year.  He had the ag mechanics make this machine that holds and bat.  You pull the bat back and let it go and it would swing and hit the ball.  It was quite ingenious of whoever invented the contraption.  Zach found out that the metal bat hit the ball about 10% farther than the wood bat.  He enjoyed this project and did good putting it together.

Tayah’s science project was “Which brand of popcorn pops the most kernels? Orville, Act II or Jolly time?”  Tayah wasn’t sure what to do this year and decided this was something she liked to eat and it wouldn’t be that hard.  We popped 3 bags of each and counted them all.  She found out that Jolly Time popped more kernels.  She did really good at typing most of her project herself.  She was ok with her project this year but told me she wants to do a more scientific project next year.  Maybe this has to do with the fact that she didn’t get a medal this year.  I think she might be a little more competitive then I think she is.

Another year of science project down only 8 more to go.

Ah, I hate science fair "projects." They are easily over done, with teachers' expectations quite high for an elaborate display board and what not. I wonder if there is some kind of clause that says you don't have to do one for "religious reasons" or something? Although, our religion loves science... so that wouldn't exactly work. Maybe "It's against my family creed to do homework and science fair projects?" I dread the day...
