This was our 2nd annual MLK Tournament that our baseball team put on. We brought our RV down to Bakersfield and camped out for a couple of nights. We have to be there by 7am and we didn’t leave until 8pm. We were so glad to have a place to stay that was supper close. It is very long but very successful.
There is a lot to do to run a Tournament. All the parents really rally and help to make it run smoothly. My little kids are real troopers and handled those long days. Thank you Aunt Teasha for letting the girls come over to play for a bit. Trey was in heaven because he got to run around all day with the older boys and he usually gets what ever he wanted from the snack bar. The older girls really help me out with Jayda. They all try real hard to get Jayda to like them so it was nice to have those built in babysitters. Tayah would never leave the snack bar if I didn’t make her get out and let the ladies have a break from kids. She loves to work and does a great job.
Our first game was against Visalia. This is Zach sliding into 2nd. I love watching him play ball. He usually gives me a heart attach because he likes to steal the bases all the time. There has been a few times where it was really close but he is so fast on his feet that he usually makes it.
When Zach was at bat this inning he was able to pull the ball to the right and hit it to right field. He got a double out of it. He had really been working on it and he was so happy when all the hard work paid off.
Zach plays short stop and is really good at it. He sometimes gets a little board during the game and is playing a game inside his head while playing the real game. Getting dirt in his glove throwing it in the air and hitting it with his glove. He is a funny kid. He likes to bang his mitt and run behind the runner that is on 2nd trying to steal 3rd. This keeps him busy and entertained most of the time.
I am in-charge of taking the photos for the team. Here is a few of my favorite pics:
This is Zach. I love it because you can see the ball right smack in the center where it should be and he is just watching it. I was shocked he didn’t swing when I was taking this picture but the funny thing is the umpire called it a ball. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder.
This is Elijah Hill. He is our 3rd baseman. If you look closely you can see him tagging the runner in the back of the leg. The Umpire called him out thankfully.
This is Zach again. I just love it because it’s my kid. Also, you can see that Zach beat the runner by an inch.
This is Izzak Olejnik. He is our center field man. He was amazing this game. He jumped up real high and caught this fly ball. He also stole home to tie the game. It was great. Right when the pitcher pitched the ball Izzak ran for home. The batter got the sign not to swing and thankfully he remembered because when the catcher got the ball Izzak was sliding right under him. It was very intense. I asked Izzak if he was nervous and he said he was scared that the batter was going to swing and hit him. It would have scared the pee out of me. But, that isn’t hard to do anymore.
Also, Zach McHome hit a grand slam and Reece Males hit a two run home run. We won every game but never got to play the championship game because the tournament got rained out. It was a very successful weekend anyways and the boys did great. Here we go – IT’S BASEBALL SEASON!!
