Swim Lessons

The kids had swimming lessons out at South Fork Middle School. Zach and Tayah were in level 4. Trey was in Level 2 and Jayda and I were in the mommy and me class. We went four times a week for 2 weeks. Zach and Tayah were doing so well that we went an extra week with them so they could get their strokes down even better. They were learning different strokes, building their endurance and having a great time with friends. They had relay races and Zach and Tayah would be on different teams and I could see their competitiveness. Tayah was doing so well and could almost keep up with Zach. At one point Zach was put on a team first and requested his sister be on his team also. That didn't happen but I thought it was cool that he wanted her on his team.Zach was very competitive and when he went against Taylor Tito it was a good competitive race. His instructor said he needed to work on his back, can't remember except you do chicken, airplane, solider with your arms) stroke, butterfly and flutter kicks. Lynette was his instructor and she invited them back for the competitive swim lessons. She seems to think he would be great on the competitive swim team.

Tayah was doing great during swim lessons. I couldn't believe that she could almost keep up with her brother. Tayah is so strong that if she really put her mind to it she would be hard to keep up with in what ever she does. Her instructor, Lynette, said she needs to work on her rotation of her arms, stay on top of water during breast stroke and bend arms during freestyle. Tayah was also invited back for the competitive swim lessons and possible team.

Trey's class was the same time as Jayda's so I didn't get to watch him as much. He looked great and was improving on his back float and free stroke. His problem was he is a sinker. I think he needs to gain some weight so he can float. Trey loved swim lessons and he passed level 2 and is going to level 3.

Jayda, well, she didn't like swim very much at all. I think out of 7 days she didn't cry, well she cried every class but didn't cry throughout the whole class about 3 days. The class would be about 1/2 way and she would show me the sign and say DONE!! She was willing to put her toy back and waved by to the instructor. Every time we would sing the "Wheels on the Bus" or "Pop goes the Weasel" she would start to stiffen up and cry because she knew she was going underwater. She got really good at getting in and out of the pool, kicking her feet, doing the pancake song, motorboat song, front glide, back glide, and airplane arms. She didn't pass the class. I laughed, thinking this is your first "F". She didn't pass her first class. Her instructor said she didn't pass because she wouldn't blow bubbles in the pool. I was ok with that because she blows bubbles in the bath tub. Jayda loves to go into the pool at home and doesn't want to get out but I think it is because it is on her own terms. We will practice everyone's skills" (funny word, reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite) this summer.
