Zachary's club "Bakersfield Blaze" baseball team hosted a tournament over MLK weekend. This meant that all us parents were in charge of the snack bar, trophies, the fields, umpires, photos and so much more. It was such a huge under taking but worked out in the end. Because we needed to be there early to set up and late to clean up we drove our RV down there and camped in the parking lot. The kids thought it was so cool and were very excited. I am just glad that I had my own toilet there and a place to let Jayda take a nap.
Our team did really good during the tourney. Zach played SS and did extremely well. He loves it when the catcher throws down and he gets the runner out at 2nd. The poor runners because Zach truly hogs the plate.
He loves to slide especially head first. He was taught to slide just outside of the base and grab onto the base. He thinks it is awesome to slide this way and beat the baseman.

The team did a good job but couldn't pull it off in the end and took 2nd place. This is normal for these boys to get to the championship game and then struggle. Hopefully they will be able to taste victory in the next couple of tournaments. They all have gotten to know one another and have mutual respect for each other. There doesn't seem to be any problems between the players or parents which is awesome. The tournament went well, the team made a lot of money. We received many good comments on how it was ran. I had to take all the photos for the tournament which really made me want a new lense and flash. Maybe one day when I feel the need to spend lots of extra unused money I will get them.
When he is running the bases he is always good at stealing the bases. The coaches allow him to steal because if he gets into a pickle 9/10 times he always makes it. In the picture he was trying to steal 2nd but had to slide back to 1st so he didn't get out. No wonder he is the dirtiest kid out there. Besides the fact that he only makes about 3/4 of what ever he is eating or drinking into his mouth.
He does ok when the coach gives the sign to bunt. They trust him that he will be able to run fast and get onto first base. He doesn't bunt to often but can usually deliver when told to.
He has really been working on his swing. He almost always hits the ball when he is up to bat. He hasn't hit a home run yet but I know he wishes and tries to every time he is up to bat.
He is pretty fast and loves to out run other people. This guy was in a pickle and Zach was able to run him down after a couple of throws. He was excited that he won the pickle.
