Zach made the newspaper. He juked alot of defensive players running to make a TD. On the kick return he ran 70 yds for a TD where they pulled his shoe off trying to tackle him but no go- he was unstoppable.

With a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, the Kern Valley Freshman Ponies traveled to Mammoth last Saturday to take on the undefeated California City Screamin’ Eagles. The Ponies were trying to reverse a tough 6-0 loss earlier in the year. The winners would be the Northern Division Champions, allowing them to compete next week in the Super Bowl against the Southern Division Champions.Colby Ritchison kicked off and the Ponies defense went right to work. Cal City’s first possession saw them faced with a 4th-and-3 and a Cal City fumble on the handoff was recovered by Cameron Stamps to give the Ponies the ball on the 40-yard line.
Kern Valley’s offense lined up in the power I on their first offensive play and two excellent blocks by Blake Lanterman and Austin Hurley sprung Zach Bushling outside allowing him to go untouched for a touchdown run. The extra point was no good to give the Ponies an early 6-0 lead. The Ponies added to the lead early in the second quarter when Keaton Kissack returned a Cal City punt back to the 21-yard line.On the very next play Hurley broke loose for an 18 yard run to put the ball on the three yard line. After two offsetting penalties Hurley scored from three yards out to increase the lead to 12-0 to end the half. The Ponies defense dominated the first half allowing the Cal City Eagles only one first down. The defensive line anchored this effort and they are led by Jordan Jost, Quaid Bohn, Charles Gholson, Cameron Stamps, Jacob Lightner and Darrell Riley.Cal City kicked off to start the thirrd quarter. The Cal City kick was deep to Bushling and he broke several tackles on his way to a spectacular 70 yard kickoff return for the touchdown. The extra point failed, but gave the Ponies an 18-0 lead.Cal City did put together a scoring drive late in the third quarter to shorten the lead to 18-6, but the Ponies defense would not let the Eagles back into the game.Kern Valley’s final score came in the fourth quarter when Bushling intercepted a Cal City pass returning it to the seven yard line. Two plays later Hurley scored his second touchdown of the day to increase the Ponies lead to 24-6.Zach Bushling led the Ponies with 175 all purpose yards followed by Hurley’s six carries for 40 yards.Leading tacklers were Bushling (8), Hurley, Ritchison (6), Conrad Miller, Lanterman and Kissack (4), Zach Sietsma, Cameron Stamps and Jordan Jost (3), Chase Mullen, Jacob Lightner and Quaid Bohn (2).The Ponies will travel to Cal City Saturday to compete in the Super Bowl against Adelanto/Victorville (10-0) Saints. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
