Tayah moved up to the Sophomore squad this year. I was so glad she did. At first I wasn't sure because she wouldn't be cheering for Zach's football team which meant we would have to stay for 2 games. On the other hand, I am glad we did because she had the talent and all her friends were on that squad.
She had a great time all year long. Even with all the drama between the girls and getting a new coach she enjoyed cheering. We would help her learn the cheers by cheering with her at home. After awhile we didn't have to try and help it just wouldn't leave our heads.
The girls had a love/hate relationship. Most of them got along just fine but there were a few that just couldn't keep quiet.
The squad tried very hard all year and was learning new things and trying new things. It was a tough year because the new coach got thrown into it and didn't have any idea of what to do. I was very proud of Tayah because she still gave the coach respect and tried everything she was told to do.
She is such a strong girl when she wants to be. She had the highest spread eagle jump and the highest kick. She was a very good base for their stunts and could hold about anyone on her team. She was usually always doing jumps and kicks after every cheer. Cheer has helped Tayah get out of her comfort zone and gave her more confidence. Their routine for the cheer competition was very interesting this year. It is hard to learn from someone who is learning also but refuses to be taught. The girls had a lot of input on their routine and it was good for them yet very chaotic.
Tayah practiced and practiced because she really wanted a medal this year. She was even able to be a flyer. This is someone who isn't on the ground holding another girl. It is the girl being held in the air. That was the most exciting thing for her. She really enjoyed being on top because it didn't happen very often. The girls were ready for the competition but when they got out to perform their music wouldn't work. They had to do the whole routine by counting it out loud. They did a great job and everyone was so proud of them for not giving up. The saddest part was they didn't place again 2 years in a row. I am not sure she will cheer again because the last 2 years haven't been very positive. She loves to cheer, jump and kick but we will see if she is willing to do it again. She is a great cheerleader and leader. We were very proud of Tayah because she didn't give up and she was a great example and leader. You are a wonderful Cheerleader Tayah, keep up the good work.
